Woodbridge Town U/18's 7 v. Ipswich Wanderers U/18's 0
Eastern Junior Alliance
Sunday 6th November 2005
Another disappointing performance by a team who are still lacking in confidence. After a very good start in which Wanderers matched Woodbridge in all aspects, it was to be an own goal by Sam O'Connor, failing to respond to the 'keepers call that put the home side 1 - 0 up, mistakes do happen. However this is when the team and the individual is most vunerable and you have to quickly put setbacks behind you and not dwell on what might have been. It was this same lack of focus and concentration by O'Connor that led to the second goal in quick succession, that saw Wanderers hand Woodbridge a second and come in at half-time 2 - 0 down, when it should have been 0 - 0.
HALF-TIME 2 - 0
The second half followed the same pattern with mistakes made by Josh Downes and Michael Garvin, heads quickly started to drop, making it a very dissapointing afternoon. How can a team concede 5 goals in the second half from a position of competitiveness? If they had put in the same sort of performance as they showed against Barton Rovers mid-week who were a much better side than Woodbridge, then Wanderers would surely have come away with at least a share of the points. All credit to Richard Lynch in goal for keeping the scoreline in single figures and to man of the match for Wanderers Matt Wilson, who tirelessly worked his socks off in midfield, while others around him gave lack lustre performances. Neil Hayward was sorely missed through injury and Ashley Rankin serving out a suspension, both will be back for the replay against Barton Rovers Sunday.
