Wanderers Reserves 3 v. Long Melford Res 0.
Chell Trophy 2nd Round
Wednesday 23rd November 2005
Wanderers had a big squad to select from for this cup match, with first teamers Ricky Martin and Dean Tournay-Godfrey included. A first start was given to in-form youth midfielder Matt Wilson.
An attacking line–up saw Wanderers take control early-on and they proceeded to attack with flair, with the front two of Kenyon and Tournay- Godfrey causing the home defence problems with their pace. The home side took the lead when Tommy Youngs headed home a corner, with Ricky Martin adding a second via the visiting goalkeeper. Ricky Martin then burst through just before the break to fire in a third goal and put the game out of Melford’s reach.
The second half saw the inevitable ‘ foot off the pedal’ of a side 3 nil up and Melford came back strongly into the game , playing some good football and creating a string of chances, which required Robbie Stannard to be at his brilliant best to keep the clean sheet intact. Adam Potter made his club debut, joining the fray with Adrian Roper and Jimmy Nunn as a substitutes.
Man of the match was a close call between Ricky Martin and Matt Wilson, who had a superb debut in centre-midfield- definitely a player with a big future ahead.
Wanderers line-up: Stannard, Hayward, Thompson, Ward, Clow, Haddock, Wilson, Youngs, Martin, Kenyon, Tournay-Godfrey. Subs used – Nunn, Roper, Potter
