IPSWICH WANDERERS  2  LEISTON TOWN  3

RIDGEONS YOUTH LEAGUE

THURSDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2006

After the last meeting only a fortnight ago Wanderers who were unfortunate not to come away with the 3-points, knew they had the chance to make amends and record there first win of the season.  The Wanderers team made two changes bringing in Downes in central defence and Starkie on the right-side of midfield.  The home side started the better of the two sides but were not clinical in finishing in and around the box,   Driver and Owen particularly were unfortunate not to have had there names on the score sheet during this period.  But as the half progressed missed opportunities allowed Leiston to get into the game and were first to get on the score sheet to make it 0-1 from a corner that should have been cleared on more than one occasion, by the sides leading goal scorer Eagle.  The away side had to bring out the best in Wanderers keeper Keeler when he had to make 3-fantastic saves to keep the scoreline at 1-1.  The home side did not have to wait long before Driver from an opportunist cross wide on the right managed beat the Leiston keeper with a welcomed equaliser in the top left hand corner.   Downes and Padmore had looked solid at the back in a new pairing at the heart of the defence.

Half-Time: 1-1

As it was a cold night got the lads out and warmed up early ready for the start of the second half, this appeared to do the trick when Wanderers took the lead after 8min of the start from a lovely strike by Lait, who continues to improve as his fitness level increases.  The game remained at 2-1 to the home side without Wanderers capitalising on the lead, so it was dissapointing when, after substitutions were made, with Guthrie coming on for young Starkie and and later Walker replacing Lait, that the home side looked a little unsettled with Howard pushing into left midfield that we allowed Leiston to get back into the game with Eagle getting his second to make it 2-2.  This dented the Wanderers spirit a little and further worsened when Eagle from nowhere got his hatrick with a beautiful strike that left the keeper no chance in the top left-hand corner.  The home side had deserved something from this game, but must learn to work for each other and everyone giving 100%.
